Stop
Now take a deep breath and try to empty your thoughts.
You’re in a calm place, the noise and rush and anxiety is gone and its just us.

The rush of this season seems never ending and if you’re like me then your anxiety is probably high and you feel overwhelmed and all of your emotions are out of whack. It’s okay.
Let’s figure this out together.
So you’re trying to build a new years resolution right? You want it to work this time, you want to be productive but also rested, you want to get your life to the next level but not be burnt out, you want to figure out how to do this the right way that works for you. Me too!
It is okay to stop you new years resolution.
Just for tonight.
Now that we are in the same boat, let’s start fresh.
To get a solid idea of what we want our life to be like and what goals we want to achieve we have to start calm.
For me it’s evening and I’m feeling confused and stressed, my mind is racing and I feel completely stuck in my seat. I want to write this fancy plan that unlike the past 5 years I’m going to succeed this time, but every time I go to start writing I hear all the productivity influencers and the self help gurus and I see all the people with the life I want which causes me to feel disappointed in myself because if they can do it I should be able to as well, and, and it never ends.
So what do we do now?
We stop.
That’s it, for today we stop. Not because we can’t do it, not because we are lazy or procrastinating. No we are stopping so our nervous system can regulate, so we can get into the headspace we actually want to be in. I don’t know about you but I have this terrible habit where when I’m stressed I add more things because I think it’ll help with the anxiety but it just makes it worse.
I don’t want to follow a plan that ‘stressed me’ made because if I was feeling that way while making the plan, I will more than likely feel that way trying to do the steps to achieve that plan as well.

So now what?
Now we are going to let our brains rest, and we are going to approch this with a better mindset either in a few hours, tonight or tomorrow.
For now we are going to do some physical activity such as going on a walk, run, bike, lift weights. It truly doesn’t matter much. However, whatever activity you do take a sticky note or a small notebook and write down any thoughts of clarity you get.

We aren’t going to do this on our phones. There’s too much of a chance that we will come across something that will rekindle the restlessness we are trying to stop.
After we do something physical, do something calming.
For me I like to cook in a candle lit kitchen, or shower in the dark, or even clean in dim lights. For me I get overstimulated extremely easy by lights and sounds so I avoid having those when I’m trying to calm down.

And if it’s as late here for me as it is you, rest.
No social media, podcast, tv shows, nothing digital or stimulating. Your brain has already reached it’s limit today and it needs the rest and you need the reset.
For me I find the most peace in hanging out with my husband, cuddling my cats, crocheting something simple like a square or just flat out sleeping.
Don’t worry about doing anything more tonight, the best thing you can do is relax, reset and resume tomorrow.
I’ll meet you back here tomorrow to start fresh.
